Serger Class Supplies
Supply List:- Serger machine in good working order
- Everything that came with your machine, including tools, feet, etc.
- Especially helpful tools: tweezers, double eye needle, needle threader, needle holder, thread catcher, extra needles, seam sealant
- Serger manual
- Serger power cord and foot (you would be surprised how often this is forgotten.)
- 4 different color spools of serger weight thread (40 weight). You can wind a bobbin with serger weight thread and share with a classmate if needed. Note: colors you need in your personal supply are black, white, tan, gray. Please do not bring sewing machine weight thread.
- Please do not purchase $1/spool serger thread - poor quality thread will affect your stitches. A few good quality thread brands are listed below.
- 2 spools, same color, of wooly nylon serger thread – match your fat quarter fabric for end of class project.
- Fabric Swatches to serge samples: (note: try to have a small 8”-12” sample of these fabrics – I will have a few but you may have some you would like to try) Note: you can cut up a shirt you no longer wear to use for practice.
- Woven Cotton
- Chiffon
- Fleece
- Satin
- Knit (one way stretch)
- Knit Jersey (two-way stretch)
- Knit (rib)
- Tulle
- 2 fat quarters that coordinate - we will make a quick project at the end of class.
- Notebook/pen for writing reference and to place your samples
- General sewing supplies – pins, ruler, scissors, clips, fabric marker, extra thread
Feel free to bring any project pattern you are planning to put together with your serger. We can talk about adapting a pattern to sew easily with your serger.
