Our S&R Sewing Machine Beginning Sewing classes are extremely popular. All too often people think, “I’ll wait closer to class to sign up” too late, the class is full. Each class is limited to give attendees the attention they need for the best learning experience. Avoid disappointment, Sign up quickly!
The classes are arranged to teach skills each week. It is important to at least have a good working knowledge of sewing and your machine that you learn in the first class (pillowcase) then to advance through to the PJs, then the 1-yard bag picking up sewing skills advancing each week along the way.
August 14, 5-8pm-$30 class fee, We will make a pillowcase tonight! You will need ¾ yard of fabric for body of pillowcase, 10” of fabric that will contrast with your fabric for the body, 2” wide fabric for your contrast trim. Buy sewing thread to match your fabrics. Remember the items above that you bring each week. (next week we will make PJs if you want to match buy both at the same time)
August 21, 5-8pm-$30 class fee, It is going to be a fun night because we make Pjs! Everyone is going to be measured so that we learn how to fit you for comfort. We learn how to install elastic! (bring enough elastic to fit around your waist plus 2”), We will make a casing and learn to hem. Lots to learn tonight so, we will have an extra hour of class. You will need 2 ½ yards of fabric, non-roll elastic, sewing thread to match your fabric and the items listed in the description above. Remember the items above that you bring each week.
August 28, 5-8pm—$30 class fee Tonight we make the cutest 1-yard bag. This 1-yard bag teaches you lots of sewing skills. We learn how to make a handle, a pocket and construction and cutting techniques. It’s going to be fun. You need 1 yard of fabric, if you want to have a contrasting fabric pocket bring another 10” of a fabric that will compliment your base fabric and buy sewing thread to match your fabrics. Remember the items above that you bring each week.
Sewing items that we will use in each class and will be worth the investment: Scissors, rotary cutter and mat, sewing pins, hem gauge, edge stitch foot (if you don’t know what it is we’ll help you find one for your machine), your sewing machine, in good working order (please check before class) and all the accessories, foot pedal, marking pen, chalk or air/water erase pen.
